Cat hangovers

It’s very early on a dark morning when I hear a noise coming from downstairs. I turn to my sleeping husband and whisper into his ear “no matter what, don’t say a word, just play dead.” It only wakes him up enough that he mutters “Huh, whaaaaaa” and suddenly there is a loud MEOWWW! MRRRREEEOOOOOWWW! from beside our bed. Meooooowww, mrrrrreew? Darn it, if he had just been quiet, Boo would have thought we were still asleep. Do you suffer from Cat Hangovers? Is there a cure for Catitude?

Joyful Bootsie has started his morning wakeup call, oblivious of it being 4:45 am. He is fully determined that we are getting up to feed him, although it’s not likely at this hour. Bootsie continues to serenade us for the next two hours, howling, meowing, calling, and cajoling waking me from disturbing dreams of being chased down endless hallways by giant rolling cans of cat food. It’s a viscous cycle of wake, sleep, wake, me determined to sleep, him determined to eat. He eventually wins and I stagger out of bed, half asleep, and fully engaged in a cat hangover.

Pounding head, aching eyes, blurry vision, a cat hangover is as bad as cat scratch fever. However revenge is purrfect, here kitty kitty, are you sleeping at 2 in the afternoon? Really, well don’t you want to play? You want to sleep… oh poor kitty, I’m awake now…

Cat hangovers, just part of the joys of having a cat. Are you furry felines purfectly behaved, or do they patrol the early mornings too?
