For us up here in the Okanagan the snow is slowly going back to where it resides the rest of the year, a cold dark spot somewhere else. But it’s not fast enough for gardeners, we peer into snow banks, search high in the branches, look far into the horizon hoping for a glimpse of what the other gardeners have had for quite some time already, the first signs of spring.
They are starting to show up in small bare patches of earth, in the swelling of the buds, and the singing of the birds. The garden centers are promising shrubs, and perennials, the seeds are out already. It’s happening, it might be a bit slower then where I used to live, but it’s coming.
It takes a bit of getting used to being so far behind, I will admit that there were a few weeks when it bothered me. The phone calls proclaiming the first Robins, the first crocus, those are still nothing more then a dream up here. It will happen, we are patient, and understanding. After all, they need something to make up for the near constant rain the coast gets.
And when our spring comes, it will be that much sweeter. For this weeks Thrifty Living 2012 please visit Elaine at Sunny simple life.
