As the twilight deepens do you shut out the night, draw the drapes, and close the curtains? Do you gather inside as the sky deepens, and the stark trees become silhouettes sharpened by the fading sunset? Did you notice the clouds, dyed pink, salmon and steel, grasp onto the last meagre twinges of light? When it gets dark, have you already withdrawn from the night, or are you window watching?
With the golden fingers of the setting sun reaching far across our back lawn stretching to catch the falling leaves, the sky darkens. The glow of the autumn leaves is diminished, but still visible, lights on inside houses, window watching at it’s best.
We now have blinds, and drapes on every window, it’s warmer and cosier, I am glad that we did all that work to get them up, it’s making a big difference in how warm the house is at night. It’s great to watch the sun go down, the last of the woodpeckers stop by, the hurry home dog walkers parade… and then it’s time to close up. Close the blinds, shut out the trees, and the window watchers. And I wanted to add this, my love opens them at the crack of dawn, so if someone drives by in the now dark mornings, there I am in my housecoat, blogging… sigh.
Do you shut your drapes at night, or are you wide open? Do you live in the country, or the city? Streetlights, or moonlight? Shuttered…
There is a chance that we might get our first skiff of snow, so I will be keeping window watch for it. Don’t forget we still haven’t had a winner of the Snow Daze contest here, it’s coming, I can feel it. Jen
