My Way of Living + Time

A farm with a view
MuddyMuddy

We were pretty busy on the weekend, not only did we go to the lake, but we visited Davison’s Orchards again. It’s such a fun place, and not just a farm, toss in an amazing view of the almost big city spread out all the way below, a petting zoo, and their great retail area that has giftware, and tasty treats for almost anyone. An amazing view of the almost big city. Could you imagine living, and farming on this sunny hill as the years go by, and watching the growing city spread out below you.

That’s what the older generation of the people who run Davison’s Orchards today must have seen as they farmed.

This weekend it was packed with tourist’s vehicles, overflowing into the second overflow lot, happy people just parking where they could. The cute little retail area was so crowded with tourists that there was just enough room to see the fruit, and veggies that they grow on the farm. One had to kind of reach in, pluck a basket, and reel it in.

There was a lot of shuffling in and out to get what we came for, fruit, and local peaches and cream corn. I saw Out of Towner's with armfuls of gifts to commemorate their visit, and cases of fresh fruit rolling out the door.

We overheard one tourist telling a staff member that they needed to rush down to the airport, because someone was flying in for the cases of peaches that they had just bought them.

And the beautiful old truck just sat there, regally stacked with wooden fruit cases.

The tourist’s ate ice cream mixed with real fruit, nibbled on pieces of homemade pie, and snapped photos of everything. The flowers bloomed, the kids played, and the apple trees continued to grow, quite the busy retail farm, a real success story.

I’ll be back again there at harvest time, hopefully to try some home made cider. Buzzing……
