Today is the start of the annual tourist invasion, and 3 way stop confusion in our little town.
Now that we live here, we laugh at each other, and say remember how we used to love going to the IPE fair [Interior Provincial Exhibition] every summer? Remember how we loved that the quaint little place swelled from 5000 residents to over 150,000 people crowded, all crammed into one tiny spot? Remember how we used to laugh and exclaim when we saw more then 5 cars lined up at the stop sign, and the confusion every one encountered because no one knew who was first?
Remember how we marvelled at all the RV vehicles parked on the fairgrounds, and the long line ups snaking through the grocery store? Can you believe it?
We thought that was cute… and then we went home to the coast, where the honking, and masses of busy fast vehicles sped by all the time… we were used to it.
How things have changed.
Now that we live among the regulars, we lament the fact that we can’t get onto the Hiway from our place in the country side, there is a steady and full stream of traffic going both ways.
No dashing downtown for anything, milk, library, post office… it’s a long tedious trip to get anywhere in town right now. And make sure you stay away from the 3 way stop, and the even worse the 4 way stop… doesn’t anyone know how to work those things anymore? Someone please take the lead and just GO!
There isn’t any ice in town, there is no pop, there are no chocolate bars, the beer stores are replenishing daily… the grocery shelves are empty.the tourist invasion is in full force, the economy is booming here.
And we can’t wait for it all to end.
Someone should start a rumour that George Clooney is in town filming a movie… oh right I already did that, “he’s in the next town over guys”…… Circling for a parking spot at the grocery store… PS.
