Angry crows, and Rocky for dinner?

For the last few days the sounds of angry crows, and ravens constantly cawing and screeching has overridden much of the normal neighbourhood noises. There were moments when it was hard to hear yourself think if you were outside, it was that loud.

The crows circled sky high, and screamed all day long sounding very upset, this lasted from dawn to dusk, until thankfully it stopped for the night. We thought that maybe a accident had befallen one of their dark relatives.

Then the other day our neighbour was out in his front yard with his little dog Rocky, when he looked up and saw a eagle in the tree. Not very high up, only about 12 sets of branches he said, and definitely eyeing up the poor little guy for dinner. Rocky the dog isn’t very big, and he might weigh about 20 pounds, so he would make a tasty snack for a hungry eagle. Our neighbour has lived here for years, and has never seen a eagle in amongst the trees by our houses. We are keeping our cat Boo close by if he is outside, because if Rocky is dinner, Boo would make a great lunch.

During a early morning walk I found out the reason for all the crowing disturbances, it’s coming from the nearby chicken farm. They have cleaned out the barn, and some dead chickens are in with the refuse. There is a huge heap of manure, and it’s black with crows, but sitting king of the castle is a eagle. The crows, and the ravens don’t like to share, and there is constant squabbling over who has first dibs.

My bets on the eagle, other wise why would the dark crows sound so upset, there is a hierarchy in nature, just like in the world… and the eagle is top dog. No pun intended.

Day, thankful, and more:
