Funny thing about customers and yellow. They don't seem to get along very well. Or at least most of them don't. Men seem to have a easier relationship with yellow than women do. At least they will consider it, right from the start.
One of my favorite things to do at work, is help customers choose their plants. Some people don't need any help, they know exactly what they want.
And other people like some suggestions on what might shine in their garden, Funny thing is, when you ask what colors they prefer, yellow is the one most women say they don't like."Oh no, not any yellow." Pinks, purples, burgundies. Soft and lovely colors. Or maybe shades of blue, a very popular color for almost everyone. At this point I usually sneak a little bit of yellow, into the grouping. And show customers how it makes the other colors pop! The right shade of yellow, can make colors look more alive, and freshen up the garden. I still remember my Mom's canary yellow, south facing, windowed, kitchen in the seventies. It was the same shade as a zucchini blossom. Now that was a morning wake up call!
